Aiming to develop ten data centers across Norway in the coming years and become a leading operator of green and sustainable data centers, Green Edge Compute puts security at the top of the agenda by entering into a strategic agreement with Norwegian telecom provider Telenor.
Cyber criminality, data theft, and industrial espionage increasingly threaten public sector organizations and private sector businesses. Green Edge Compute puts data center security at the top of the agenda by entering into a strategic agreement with Telenor for security and connectivity solutions.
Telenor will deliver connectivity between Green Edge Compute’s data centers, provide a cyber security platform that protects all data center customers against hostile attacks, and continuously monitor all traffic from their safety center. The collaboration ensures that both public and private sector customers benefit from the highest security measures possible.
Accommodating Data Center Cyber Security Concerns
Green Edge Compute has developed a more sustainable approach to building and operating data centers. Leveraging innovative technology and creating a novel approach to data center operations, Green Edge Compute’s data centers will consume nearly 40 percent less energy than conventional data centers. Simultaneously, close to 90 percent of the energy will be recycled and reused as a heating resource in local district heating systems.
However, data center hacking and cyber criminality are increasingly on the rise. Hacktivism, DDOS attacks, state-sponsored attacks, and ransomware become more prevalent and refined and create new concerns and threats for public and private sector businesses.
Considering that hackers and cybercriminals have become more professional and cunning, Green Edge Compute leverages end-to-end control mechanisms, 24/7 surveillance, and network-centric firewall to ensure that their data center reaches the highest possible security levels.
– Security is a top priority for us who build and operate data centers. Telenor owns and manages critical infrastructure and handles cyber-attacks daily – everything from advanced espionage attempts to cyber burglaries and data theft. Telenor was the natural choice for us when we were looking for a security partner. We look forward to a great collaboration, says the Director of Business Development in Green Edge Compute, Jan Georg Larsen.
Increased Focus on Cyber Security in Telenor
As the owner of critical communication infrastructure in Norway, Telenor has a high focus on cyber security. Close to 80 percent of all data traffic is transmitted via Telenor’s telecom network. Telenor has, over time, established a competent security environment with over 100 employees monitoring and analyzing cyber security incidents. During the coming months, Telenor will strengthen this team with 40 new cyber security specialists.
– Cyber security is one of Telenor’s largest priority areas. Our experiences safeguarding and protecting our own infrastructure are equally crucial for our customers. The cyber security market is estimated to be worth close to three billion NOK only in Norway, and we expect an annual growth rate of 6-8 percent. We can offer a broad specter of services, both standardized and tailored solutions. One of our services is 24/7 network surveillance for our customers, Birgitte Engebretsen, Head of Enterprise Business in Telenor Norway, says.
Partnering Up with Telenor for Network and Security Solutions
Telenor will deliver connectivity between Green Edge Compute’s data centers, provide a security platform that protects all data center customers against hostile attacks, and continuously monitor all traffic from their safety center. Green Edge Compute will use a similar security platform as Telenor has implemented on its own platform.
The collaboration ensures that both public and private sector customers benefit from the highest security measures possible. Furthermore, with the help of Telenor, Green Edge Compute can offer customer-specific monitoring for those who want it, in addition to the security measures Green Edge Compute already has implemented in their data centers.
Telenor is excited to be the sole provider of network and security solutions in Green Edge Compute’s data centers.
– This project is a prime example of how new technology can create environmentally positive benefits. Data centers make up a part of the Norwegian critical infrastructure, and Norwegian data centers generate sustainable solutions, new jobs, and positive side effects for local communities. For us in Telenor, it is exciting to be a part of Green Edge Compute’s initiative, Engebretsen, Head of Enterprise Business in Telenor Norway, says.
Telenor’s annual turnover will be over NOK 20 million when all ten data centers are fully operational. The partnership with Green Edge Compute is Telenor’s largest security contract so far in 2021.
